The new Beneteau Gran Turismo 50 makes outdoor living the starting point for its layout, pairing opening terraces and a generous cockpit with accommodation for short coastal escapes.
A different balance of space
Beneteau’s latest Gran Turismo flagship puts a clear question to prospective owners: how much of a summer day do you actually spend inside? The new GT50 answers with opening cockpit terraces, a substantial bathing platform and a separate foredeck gathering area. Its enclosed living space is deliberately more compact, leaving more of the boat available for outdoor use.
Designed by Pierangelo Andreani, the hardtop cruiser carries the visual identity of the renewed Gran Turismo family. Beneteau says the generation offers 30 per cent more exterior space than its predecessor. That figure describes a design priority, rather than an increase in every individual area or a change that removes the compromises of a boat this size.
A cockpit that shapes the day
The arrangement encourages meals, swimming and conversation to happen around the aft deck. Opening sides can make an anchorage feel less enclosed, while the foredeck offers another place to settle when the main cockpit is busy. For a family or two couples, having separate outdoor destinations can matter more than squeezing everyone around one larger table.
There is a practical exchange here. Owners who cruise through colder months may place greater value on an enclosed saloon; Mediterranean dayboaters may welcome the opposite allocation. The GT50 makes that choice visible in its proportions. It is worth considering the layout with terraces closed as well as open, since the boat needs to work during passages and marina stays too.
The accommodation described in Yachting’s review comprises three cabins and two bathrooms, with sleeping space for up to five. This supports occasional nights aboard without turning the main deck into a permanent sleeping area. For buyers, the useful exercise is to imagine the whole group waking up, storing bags and preparing breakfast after the outdoor furniture has become part of ordinary life.
Performance in context
Twin 480 hp Volvo Penta D6 engines with IPS650 drives power the model. Yachting recorded 31.2 knots during its trial, which took place in calm Mediterranean conditions. That is the publication’s result, rather than an AUVEMARE sea trial or a promise of identical performance under a different load.
An optional Silent Boat Pack supplies onboard services from batteries, with solar support, while anchored. It does not turn the GT50 into an electrically propelled yacht. Its relevance is more immediate: less need to run a generator during suitable periods at anchor, subject to battery condition and the equipment being used. The boat’s appeal ultimately rests on how convincingly these choices support a day outside.
