Siemens Energy has selected EST-Floattech’s Octopus High Energy batteries for a hybrid offshore support vessel designed with room for future battery expansion.

EST-Floattech will supply more than 1 MWh of battery capacity for Marco Polo Marine’s CSOV Plus, with Siemens Energy integrating the hybrid power system. The vessel is being built at Marco Polo Marine’s Batam shipyard in Indonesia.

Batteries for Station-Keeping

The Octopus High Energy system will support hybrid operation and dynamic positioning. Working with the generators and Siemens Energy’s BlueDrive PlusC, the batteries provide reserve power and buffer changing loads during station-keeping.

The intended benefit is to reduce the number of generators required online while allowing operating units to work closer to an efficient load point.

Provision for a Larger System

Designed by Salt Ship Design, the vessel is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2028 and operation by Taiwan-based PKR Offshore.

The layout reserves space for a future battery package of up to 20 MWh, intended to enable fully electric operation. That is an expansion provision, not the capacity of the initial installation or confirmation that the vessel will be delivered as fully electric.
