Ferrari's Hypersail project has reached another construction milestone in Pisa, where the 30-metre racing monohull now has its completed paintwork and livery. The next chapter centres on integration and testing, as the project works toward turning an ambitious foiling and energy concept into an operating yacht.

From Structure to Integration

BOAT International reports that the hull's exterior finish is complete, while technical outfitting continues. Major appendages, including the canting keel, foils and rudder, have also been built. Their installation and integration form part of the work still ahead.

The report places a transfer to Livorno in December 2026 and an intended launch in March 2027. These are programme targets rather than completed events. For now, the visible milestone is a more complete racing platform within the construction environment.

Control Is Part of the Design

Hypersail is designed by Guillaume Verdier with Ferrari's technical and design teams. Its Flight Control system is intended to coordinate the appendages that manage the yacht's foiling behaviour. The engineering challenge involves the relationship between structure, sensing, hydraulic actuation and control, rather than treating each component as a separate achievement.

From a development perspective, a finished part and a functioning system represent different kinds of progress. The important questions arise when loads, movement and control demands meet. Testing will give the team evidence about how those relationships behave beyond the design environment.

That distinction matters when following an unusual project. A striking hull can make the outcome feel close, but the work needed to establish repeatable operation is less easily conveyed by a single image. This update is a construction milestone, not proof of achieved offshore performance.

An Energy Ambition Still to Be Demonstrated

ABB, the project's electrification partner, describes an energy system designed for self-sufficiency, with renewable generation and intelligent power management. Its account places the relationship between generation, storage and onboard demand at the centre of the electrical architecture.

These aims raise a practical question for readers interested in marine technology: how is energy demand managed when different functions need power at the same time? A credible answer belongs in a measured operating record, including the conditions under which the system has been tested. Announced intentions alone cannot provide it.

The appeal of Hypersail lies partly in watching that answer develop. The current update brings the physical yacht further into view while leaving its most meaningful evidence ahead: commissioning, sailing and the accumulated experience of the people operating it. Each will help distinguish what the project intends to do from what it can reliably demonstrate.
