A planned METSTRADE discussion will examine whether advances in maritime nuclear technology could have a future in superyachting, alongside the substantial obstacles to putting it into practice.
Nuclear propulsion will enter the Superyacht Stage programme at METSTRADE on 17 November 2026. The session is scheduled for 11:30–12:45 at RAI Amsterdam.
KNVTS is hosting the discussion in collaboration with KIVI and Maritime & Offshore NL. Experts from industry, research and classification will consider lessons from the wider maritime sector, including developments in small modular reactors.
A possibility to examine, not a product launch
The organisers identify safety, regulation, classification, infrastructure and public acceptance as significant issues. Integrating such technology into yacht design and operations adds further questions specific to private vessels.
The event is an exploratory discussion. It is not an announcement of an approved nuclear-powered superyacht, a commissioned vessel or a commercially available propulsion package.
