Saxdor has presented Simrad AutoCaptain around the Genoa Boat Show, bringing automated docking and short marina manoeuvres into the discussion of everyday boat handling.
Saxdor demonstrated Simrad AutoCaptain with Navico during on-water activity ahead of the Genoa Boat Show. The system supports automated docking, undocking and nearby repositioning.
Simrad describes a factory-integrated installation combining six cameras, a dedicated display interface and Mercury propulsion. It is not offered as a universal aftermarket accessory.
The captain remains responsible
AutoCaptain operates within the area perceived by its cameras. Simrad requires the captain to remain attentive and ready to take control. Its detection is limited to above-water obstacles, excluding swimmers, shallow water and submerged hazards.
The technology therefore addresses a defined part of boat handling. It does not amount to unattended navigation, and holding alongside a dock does not replace securing the vessel with lines and fenders.
